Moholi Bushbaby
The Moholi bushbaby is a small tree-dwelling primate from the savannah woodlands of South Africa. As nocturnal mammals, they spend most of the day in groups sleeping. When they aren’t sleeping, you can find them jumping from tree to tree for food alone at night!
Range & Habitat
In the Wild: Sub-Saharan Africa, ranging from East Sengal to Somalia and South Africa. Found in Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mocambique, Transvaal and Swaziland.
At the Zoo: Adaptations of Animals
Conservation Status: Least Concern
Suffering from threats of habitat loss, predation by larger owls, snakes, servals and wild cats, pet trade and bushmeat trade in small numbers.
Diet
In the Wild: insects, fruits, local greens and gum from trees
At the Zoo: fruit, insects and assorted foliage
Life Span
Fun Facts about the Moholi Bushbaby
- Bushbabies can see 250 degrees around their body, as compared to humans who can only see 200 degrees! They can also rotate their head 180 degrees.
- Their hearing is acute enough to hear the gliding of an owl.
