Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo to hold Annual Meeting on May 25
SYRACUSE, NY, May 12, 2021 - The Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo will hold its 2021 Annual Meeting virtually via Zoom at noon on Tuesday, May 25. The public is invited to attend this online opportunity to meet the Friends of the Zoo’s new executive director, Carrie Large, and learn how the zoo’s non-profit partner supports its missions of animal care, conservation education and saving species.
The Friends will present its 2020 Annual Report and give an overview of the past year’s challenges and accomplishments, as well as goals for 2021. Large will be joined by Zoo Director Ted Fox, Chair of the Friends Board Heidi Holtz and at least one animal ambassador! Attendees are invited to submit questions ahead of time for Fox and Large to answer at the virtual meeting.
Last year, the Friends celebrated its 50th anniversary with a campaign to raise $50,000 to help the zoo recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. The $50K for 50 Years campaign ended up raising almost $70,000 thanks to a strong community of supporters who pitched in to help despite their own hardships at an extremely trying time.
Friends of the Zoo was founded in 1970 as a non-profit partner to support the Rosamond Gifford Zoo’s animals, education programs and facilities. The zoo is owned by Onondaga County and co-operated with the Friends, which provides the zoo’s education, membership and volunteer programs and operates the zoo’s gift shop, concessions and events venue, Catering at the Zoo, among other departments.
The Friends is the main fundraising force behind many zoo capital projects like the current One Health | One Mission campaign to equip the new Animal Health Center being built at the zoo as a state-of-the-art zoological medical center.
A link to attend this public meeting will be sent to Friends of the Zoo’s e-mail list and posted on the zoo’s website, rosamondgiffordzoo.org.
