County Executive McMahon Announces Rosamond Gifford Zoo Renews AZA Accreditation
Reinforces commitment to Animal Welfare & Conservation
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – County Executive Ryan McMahon is proud to announce that the Rosamond Gifford Zoo has successfully renewed its accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). This prestigious designation recognizes the zoo’s exceptional commitment to animal welfare, conservation and education.
County Executive McMahon said, “It’s no secret to those of us that live here that the Rosamond Gifford Zoo is a hidden gem. I am delighted that their commitment to excellence has been acknowledged with AZA accreditation.” McMahon continued, “This achievement reinforces our community's dedication to protecting wildlife and preserving our natural heritage.”
AZA accreditation is a rigorous process that involves a thorough evaluation of the zoo’s facilities, animal care practices, education programs, and overall operations. To maintain accreditation, zoos must meet a comprehensive set of standards that address the physical and psychological well-being of animals, the quality of their habitats and the zoo’s contribution to conservation efforts. This accreditation certifies that the Rosamond Gifford Zoo will continue to be a credible and valuable resource for the surrounding community on conservation and animal education.
“We are thrilled to once again receive AZA accreditation,” said Ted Fox, Executive Director of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. “This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, who are passionate about providing the highest quality care for our animals. We are committed to continuing to exceed the standards set by AZA and to be a leader in animal welfare and conservation.”
AZA accreditation is a badge of honor and a guarantee of quality for visitors. Accredited zoos are dedicated to providing enriching experiences for their animals and engaging educational programs for the public. They also play a vital role in conservation efforts, both locally and globally. The Rosamond Gifford Zoo is proud to be continuously accredited since 1987 and to contribute to the association’s mission of saving wildlife. By meeting the AZA’s stringent standards, the zoo is ensuring that its animals are living in the best possible conditions and that it is making a positive impact on our local community and on the world at large.
